I had a lunch meeting with Chris Yen, Donnie Yen\u2019s sister, last week– and it was a very productive meeting! Read on!<\/p>\n

Chris Yen – Inside Kung Fu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

For those of you who don\u2019t know \u2013\u00a0<\/span>Chris Yen\u00a0<\/strong>is an awesome martial artist and entrepreneur. Early in her martial arts film career she worked with acclaimed action director\u00a0<\/span>Yuen Woo-Ping<\/a>\u00a0in 1986 on a project shot in Taiwan. Later in her career she went on to work with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson helping her brother out on the set of\u00a0<\/span>Shanghai Knights<\/strong>. Soon after she went to Hong Kong to film a stylish female assassin role in \u201c<\/span>Black Rose<\/strong>.\u201d Chris Yen\u2019s performance in\u00a0<\/span>Black Rose\u00a0<\/strong>led to a profile in the South China Morning Post, which in turn led to a featured appearance with Matt Lauer on NBC\u2019s The Today Show, broadcast live from Hong Kong to millions of viewers. Invited to LA for auditions by a top casting director from Columbia Pictures, she has been featured in several commercials and was cast as the lead in the youth market action film\u00a0<\/span>Adventures of Johnny Tao<\/strong>, as well as in a supporting role in\u00a0<\/span>A Good Day to be Black and Sexy<\/strong>, an official 2008 Sundance Selection. She continues to work hard and develop projects with her writing partners.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her brother Donnie Yen has appeared in more than 40 films and TV shows, including:\u00a0\u201cIp Man\u201d<\/strong>(2008), \u201cFlash Point\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>(2007),\u00a0\u201cSaat Po Long aka SPL\u201d<\/strong>(2005),\u00a0\u201cShanghai Knights\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>(2003),\u00a0\u201cHero\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>(2002),\u00a0\u201cBlade II\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>(2002),\u201cHighlander: Endgame\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>(2000), and\u00a0\u201cIron Monkey \u201d\u00a0<\/strong>(1993).<\/p>\n

Interestingly enough in March 2009 I posted an article on Chris Yen on the WushuKicks.com Wushu News blog \u2013\u00a0http:\/\/www.wushukicks.com\/chinese-martial-arts\/tag\/chris-yen\/<\/a>\u00a0It\u2019s amazing that a year later we got to sit down to chat over lunch.<\/p>\n

We got in touch through a mutual friend and originally met up to get her feedback on\u00a0Martial Arts Complete<\/strong>, a martial arts product in development. This picture was taken with a\u00a0<\/span>Nikon D60. Chris Yen came out looking great. After clearing out the background and putting in the martial arts complete background I think the whole thing is looking pretty cool!<\/span><\/p>\n

Business aside, we had a lot to talk about regarding wushu, martial arts training, movies, productions, refinancing, and the tasty\u00a0appetizers at the cafe. Chris mentioned that she will be back and forth between Asia and the states and we talked a lot about her personal project\u00a0Kore8Films<\/a>\u00a0and what it takes to get things off the ground. It was a really great meeting and I am honored to be able to sit down with such an accomplished yet humble martial artist.
