A Red Carpet Affair at the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival
The cast of The Other Side along with director Akiko Izumitani all re-united this week to attend the opening night of the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival. Opening night featured a film produced and directed by WongFu called Everything Before Us. Congrats to them on making their first feature!
I was very excited to see all my friends and cast members from The Other Side. This short film team is very special to me because every time we get together there’s just such great energy. I think it speaks something of Akiko’s direction and her choices.
For The Other Side I actually had many roles. I was action director/coordinator/choreographer and I also play one of the henchmen characters, Darick Chan. The interesting thing about this project is that it actually explores the lives of these ambiguous henchmen characters that you see randomly die in blockbuster action movies. The lead henchmen character, Hank, is played by James Kyson. I think it’s an interesting exploration into these nondescript characters that you usually hardly pay attention to when following the story of the lead hero.
Featured above I’m with cast member Narisa Suzuki having a good time on the red carpet. Yes, I’m doing a push kick! haha
After a group photo on the carpet I was interviewed by LA 18 and Pacific Rim Video Press. I got love for Pacific Rim because I used to be one of their correspondents! About 6 years ago I was exactly at the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival interviewing Cung Le for Pacific Rim’s channel and this time I was interviewed by Pacific Rim’s very own Chris Trondsen!
If you have the chance, please check out our short “The Other Side”.
